An Open Letter; The GOAT

Those that known me personally know how passionate I can be when debating things related to the beautiful game. I have been watching the game since around 6 years old, with the colourful jersey of the Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos capturing my attention on an evening in late June 1994. My Mother’s favourite player was John Aldridge and she was following his Ireland side. This was my first introduction to the world cup, besides the excessive marketing on TV and the hand clapper toy McDonald’s would give away with Happy Meals that entire summer. For that moment I was a Mexico fan and was investigating all the permutations of them advancing from a Group E which also contained Italy. Prior to this Serie A was what I had watched occasionally as my Step Father was an avid AC Milan fan, and would rave on about Silvio Berlusconi bringing these 3 Dutch men to the San Siro, it sounded like something out of the book of Matthew and was all too prophetic for me. Meanwhile there was thi

So the January sales are in full swing as Barcelona have broken the British transfer record to secure the signature of long time target Phil Coutinho... Finally! The Phillipe Coutinho Transfer saga started nearly two years ago when Barca chiefs signalled their intentions to bring the Brazilian to the Catalan in the Spring of 2015. Following a tumultuous 2 years and an estimated £145m Lil Phil will now be the second most expensive player in the world. Only childhood friend and international teammate Neymar can boast costing more than Coutinho.  This is an interesting turn in events considering the stance the Liverpool hierarchy took only 6 months ago in rebuffing the what looked like a bumper £113m offer from Barcelona. FSG who have been heavily criticised for showing a lack of ambition during their tenure at Anfield, were adamant that they were not going to do business for the player who had only 6 months previous signed a 5 year extension. So what exactly has changed?

4:44 The Maturation of Jay-Z

Image
It's Friday the 30th of June 2017, the release date of  the highly anticipated 4:44, the 13th studio album by Jay-Z. Barely noon, 11:44 to be precise.  I have let the album play a few times over now, and a wave of emotion has consumed in this very moment! Not sadness, not joy, but a wave of recompense is the word that I would use to aptly describe it! I recompense is a strong word, however I feel the fraternity of Jigga's loyalist fans were somewhat short changed with his 2 previous releases; "Watch the Throne" and "Magna Carta Holy Grail". They were very much in sync with the climate of music at that specific time, but when you are Jay-Z you don't follow the trends. You set the trends for others to follow, and since 1996 this is what I have become accustomed to. So as I press play on the album for a 4th straight time, I would just like to go on record as saying 4:44 is definitely the defining moment in The Maturation of Jay-Z. R

Finally after months of not so subtle hinting at an impending release Drake and his idiosyncratic branded October Firm have finally presented More Life to the world, amidst a fan fare and enthusiasm that only the 6 God can engender.  The 22 song playlist, was premiered on OVO Sound Radio on Saturday evening, pretty much sending the online community into a frenzy. The project was expected to be a an Apple Music exclusive however is now available to stream on other platforms including Spotify and Tidal.  Initial reception to the project has been overwhelmingly positive and in typical Drake fashion he has somewhat given us what is likely to be the soundtrack for the summer. The lead single "Fake Love" is a highlight along with the first and last tracks "Free Smoke" and "Do Not Disturb". A special mention also for "Can't have everything" which is a throwback to So Far Gone days. My personal review on first listening was damning to say

Get Out, or maybe Stay a while?

I primarily am someone who indulges more in music more than film. For the most part I probably attend the cinema once every calendar year. To further emphasise my lack of enthusiasm, the last film I went to watch at the the cinema was Dirty Grandpa. So You're probably right in assuming that a trip to my local movie theatre was long overdue. Luckily I was able to grab some FREE tickets to a preview screening of "Get Out" courtesy of Show Film First. The film was first brought to my attention by randomly coming across the trailer on YouTube, and then later that day during an episode of Joe Budden's I'll name This Podcast Later. They discussed all eagerly anticipating its release. I can usually rely on Joey, Rory and Mal for honest commentary in regards to most things, so I mildly entertained the idea of going to see it. Anybody that knows me can vouch not only am I not a Film guy, I am  also the guy who despises Action Thrillers and Horror flicks especial

Range Rover Velar

Land Rover put all car enthusiasts out of their misery by finally releasing images of their latest model the Range Rover Velar. These images come after months of eager speculation regarding the forth model in the range from Land Rover, and by early indications they may be onto a winner.  The Velar in keeping with Range Rover tradition is elegantly styled, but more than equipped for any off road excursions. The concept of this luxury mid-size SUV is to fill the gap that the manufacturers hope they have correctly identified that lies between the iconic Range Rover Sport and the popular Range Rover Evoque. I personally feel that the market place is more than ready for this type of crossover SUV as some drivers may not welcome the idea of the fully grown Sport, yet at the same time don't deem the Evoque big enough to give you the "Real Range Rover Experience". In regards to the marketplace obvious similarities have been drawn to The Jaguar F-Pace but that should
